Rapid LEO Ground Station Deployment

LEO Sat Ground Stations Across 3 Provinces

Network siting, municipal approvals, power design, fibre backhaul engineering, and multi‑site ground station construction.

Key Facts:

The Challenge

SpaceX, the leading LEO satellite operator needed to expand ground coverage in Canada to keep pace with customer demand. That meant bringing multiple new ground stations online, close to major population centres, without getting bogged down in permitting delays, utility timelines, or network‑build complexity.

However:

  • Suitable sites were scarce, and competition for them was intensifying
  • Municipalities were cautious about approving new facilities amid changing federal rules
  • Each site required high‑bandwidth connectivity and reliable power, but conditions varied widely by region

The operator needed a partner who could handle end‑to‑end delivery, from land and permits to fibre and power, while keeping deployment timelines on track.

The Solution

Shared Fibre acted as a single partner to plan, secure, and build out the ground station footprint.

Over the course of one year, Shared Fibre:

  • Delivered seven operational ground station sites in three provinces
  • Balanced speed to deployment with long‑term scalability and resilience

Key elements of the solution:

  • Turnkey program management across site acquisition, municipal affairs, fibre engineering, and construction
  • Fast‑track activation, using temporary redundant power so the operator could start carrying traffic while permanent utility connections were completed
  • Right‑sized connectivity at each site, from direct dark‑fibre routes to Tier‑1 interconnection points to custom last‑mile builds into the client’s preferred carrier

By consolidating all of this under one coordinated program, Shared Fibre enabled the LEO operator to:

  • Enter high‑priority regions months faster than a traditional, sequential build
  • Maintain network reliability and redundancy from day one
  • Confidently scale capacity as next‑generation satellite services drive higher bandwidth demand
